Trip to California

Enjoying a hike on the ranch with Papa and Nana.

Struggling through the airport with two people carrying five people's stuff is real fun!

What we landed into at the airport!

We very much enjoyed being on the ranch again!

We were blessed to be able to spend 10 days in California visiting friends and family over Christams. It was so good to see everyone again! Many thanks to many of you who had us in your homes while we were there! We had a wonderful time. We have missed everyone from home and it was great to spend time with friends and family. It was also a rich blessing to be able to attend Cornerstone again. We are so grateful for our Cornerstone family!

Our trip home was a little stressful, but God gave grace and met our needs. We barely made our flight out of San Jose. We got up just after 2am to make our flight, drove up to San Jose, got to the airport only to meet a line out the door to check bags. By the time we got our bags checked, we only had 25 minutes to make the departure time. Thankfully, they had an express security checkpoint set up that they sent us through. We got through that, ran through the airport with the munchkins and got to the gate as they were loading the plane. Praise the Lord we made it! Things went smooth from then on. We were just tired. We left California at 3am and got home around 9pm our time. It was a long day.

It was weird to go from 20 degree weather to 70 degree weather and then return again to even colder weather! We landed in a good snowstorm in Indianapollis. I have no idea how a 747 can land on a snowy runway at 150 miles an hour and not spin out! If we go 55 on roads like that we end up in the ditch! This morning it was 7 degrees with the wind chill bringing it down below zero. I won't lie. It was good to get back to the cold again!

My winter class starts tomorrow. It goes from 8-5 M-F but I get a whole class finished in a week. I am looking forward to it as it is a missions class. I have much to learn in that area.

On that note, I need to get ready for bed. I have been sick for three weeks and I am struggling to get out of bed in the mornings! Back to getting up early tomorrow!

God bless,

Shane

  1. It was great to see you! Turns out it was a good thing we didn't take you to the airport. Emily got sick the night before (stomach virus) and we would have had to cancel anyway.

  2. Great Job Shane! We really miss you all! On a sad note, a family you might know from our church- the Pahler's- lost their son this weekend due to an ATV accident. He was 14- a really tough loss. His Sister is Adam's assistant and Adam is really close with the family. In fact his sister and brother were with Adam in L.A. for the inner city ministry missions trip for the past few days. They are all returning home tonight ( the Pahler kids returning early). We are all grieving the loss for that family tonight.
Lord bless all the Sander family tonight as they sleep and prepare for what God has for them as they return to 'life at Seminary!"
    Love, Nana

  3. I'm sorry that you were sick on your vacation. We missed having breakfast with you at Beef Palace. I won't lie either; I'm glad that I don't have to knock the snow and ice off of poles before I climb them here in California. That's about all I'm glad for in this state though.... Hope we get a chance to visit next time!
